The International Society for Concrete Pavements is announcing a Student Poster Board Competition at the 9th International Conference for Concrete Pavements held August 17 – 21, 2008 in San Francisco, California, USA. The best student poster presentation at conference session will be awarded the B.F. McCullough Award.
Graduate and undergraduate college students are highly encouraged to submit a poster on their research progress in areas such as innovative technologies in concrete pavement design, construction, materials, maintenance, performance, evaluation, rehabilitation, asset management, and more.
Important Due Dates
May 1, 2008: Completed posters due for initial review (submit to Dr. Elin Jensen at Jensen@ltu.edu)
May 22, 2008: Review completed, authors notified
August 17-20, 2008: Student Poster Board Judging. Student presenter must be available to facilitate questions from the three assigned judges during this time. Students are also encouraged to be present at the posters to facilitate questions from conference participants during the time slots indicated in the conference program.
General Information
The entries for the student poster board competition will undergo an initial review and a judging. The initial review, performed prior to the conference, is to provide the students with constructive feedback and suggestions on how to improve the poster. The judging will take place at the conference and will determine the recipient of the B.F. McCullough Award. To be considered for the B.F. McCullough Award an entry must go through both the review and the judging.
Each poster submitted by May 1, 2008 will be considered by a technical review panel that will evaluate the poster on a scale from 1 – 5 over each of four categories: 1) overall effectiveness, 2) technical content, 3) conclusions, and 4) visual impact and quality. Posters synthesizing current knowledge, only, will not be ranked.
Student posters receiving ratings of 15 or better during the initial review will be eligible to receive one student conference fee waiver per poster. All student posters receiving a fee waiver will be notified by May 22, 2008.
Each poster board is not to exceed the size of a 36” x 48” (900 mm x 1200 mm) Tri-fold Science Display Board. The presenter is responsible for providing the poster and the poster board. Easels will be provided for displaying the posters at the 9th International Conference by ISCP.
Posters must be submitted for initial review in pdf or Microsoft Powerpoint format to Elin Jensen at the address below or via E-mail to Jensen@ltu.edu. If the document exceeds 5 MB the entry must be submitted on a CD and send to the address listed below. Receipt of the poster will be acknowledged by E-mail.
A student presenter listed on the poster as an author must be present during judging to be considered for the B.F. McCullough Award. Judging will also consider the students’ abilities to positively influence the audience and facilitate questions. Note that the judges at the conference will not participate in the initial technical review.
Some local ACPA chapters and affiliates have expressed a willingness to defray travel costs for participating students. Potential competitors should contact their local ACPA chapter or affiliate (or other industry groups) to determine whether they are participating in the program or not.
