Call for Abstracts for the Pavement Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) Symposium 2017

ILLLogo-ictOn behalf of the Scientific and Advisory committees, we invite you to submit an abstract for the Pavement Life Cycle Assessment Symposium 2017 to be held April 12-13, 2017 in Champaign, Illinois, USA. The symposium is organized by the Illinois Center for Transportation—University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and will focus on the implementation of LCA for pavements in North America and around the world.

Abstract submission deadline is July 20, 2016

The objective of the 2017 Symposium is to review the current status of LCA implementation, identify the extent of consensus, and discuss future developments for pavement LCA implementation. This symposium is a follow-up to the 2010 Pavement LCA Workshop—Davis, California; 2012 RILEM Symposium on LCA for Construction Materials—Nantes, France; and 2014 Pavement LCA Symposium—Davis, California. An increasing number of agencies, academic institutes, and governmental and industrial bodies are embracing the principles of sustainability in managing their activities and conducting business. As a sustainability quantitative measurement tool, LCA has been increasingly used in Europe in the construction industry and is being integrated into green construction regulations in a number of countries. In North America, steps have been taken to facilitate the adoption of LCA.

LCAAbstractDatesAbstracts are sought under the following topics:

  • Project-level LCA implementation case studies
  • Recent developments for the regional inventory databases for materials, construction, and maintenance and rehabilitation life-cycle stages and critical challenges
  • Review of methodological choices and impact on LCA results
  • Role of PCR and EPDs on the implementation of LCA
  • Use-phase rolling resistance models and field validation
  • Uncertainty assessment in all life-cycle stages
  • Use of LCA in decision making for project selection
  • Implementation case studies and lessons learned: Agency perspectives
  • Network-level LCA applications and critical challenges
  • Integration of LCA into pavement management systems (PMS)
