As a lead state for the implementation of SHRP2 Project R21 technologies, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is sponsoring a showcase on two-lift concrete paving on January 31, 2017 at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Hotel in Burbank, California, USA. There is no cost to participate in the event, but everyone must register electronically. The showcase includes: A technical program describing two-lift paving (featuring several agencies with firsthand experience in the use of the technology), and is highlighted with a field visit to a nearby two-lift paving project on Interstate 210.

shrp2homepageThe Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) Project R21 has developed design and construction guidelines for new composite pavement systems, including composite Portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements placed in two lifts and in a wet-on-wet process. This innovative pavement provides a number of significant benenefits, such as improved surface characteristics, reduced agency and user costs, and reduced environmental impacts. The results of R21 research on two-lift, PCC/PCC systems are fully documented in the project’s final report (http://goo.gl/7ddiZB).
