Seoul Metropolitan Government and Korea Block Association will hold the 12th International Conference on Concrete Block Pavement 2018 (12th ICCBP 2018) from October 16 to 19 at the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). The conference is the continuation of a series of successful events in San Francisco, Buenos Aires, Shanghai and Dresden. The event was formerly known internationally under the name ‘PAVE’, and this is the second one since the event in Dresden Germany, 2015. Held every three years, the ICCBP was first launched in 1980 in Newcastle, England by the Small Element Pavement Technologists (SEPT): a group of researchers, professors and associations that pursue the academic and technological development of block pavement. The ICCBP 2018 event will be organized by the Association of Block Pavement in Korea and will be sponsored by the Metropolitan Government of Seoul and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation, South Korea. In addition to an opening ceremony, a symposiums and presentation of papers by authors, it is anticipated that there will be pre-conference workshops, technical tours, and an exhibition of industry suppliers.
This is the first time Seoul will be hosting the conference. In 2015 at the 11th ICCBP in Dresden, Germany, the city government—a group of 36 persons, partially comprising member companies under the Korea Block Association—ran the Seoul exhibition booth, then through aggressive marketing successfully won a bid for the 12th conference 2018. The 12th ICCBP is mainly organized by the Association of Block Pavement in Korea, collaborated with the Korean Society of Road Engineers, the Korean Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, Korea Specialty Contractors Association, Korean Interlocking Block Cooperative, and the Federation of Korea Concrete Industry Cooperatives.
In Korea, the block paved areas has grown continuously and the concrete block industry also expands dramatically. This international conference is the only of such gatherings related to concrete block pavement on a global scale, and is a part of long-term series of events to discuss and promote technical and scientific progress, recent developments and issues in the design and construction of block pavements worldwide. It provides a common platform for decision makers, managers, maintenance engineers, practitioners, and researchers to share their international experience in block pavement design and construction. Contributions from specialists from all over the world are invited. Will feature:

Concrete Plant International (CPI) will organize the international trade EXHIBITION PAVILION—a total of 58 exhibition booths— which will feature the latest innovative pavement policies, production technologies, refinement techniques, surface protection systems, molds, colors, underlay boards, and other products and technologies. Companies who want to join the exhibition need apply on the official website by September 14, 2018.
The conference includes an opening ceremony that will launch on October 17 with opening remarks and a fusion performance combining traditional Korean literature and music. On October 19, the last day of the event, participants can walk along major pedestrian paths, along Cheonggyecheon Stream, and enjoy the cultural experience of various locales. The city has aggressively implemented the theme “Walking Seoul” and will also introduce its innovative walking and pedestrian-related policies to the world, including “Pavement Block EXPO”, promoted since 2013.
