“Emerging Leaders Group” Calls for Nominations by Feb 25th

The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) is looking for your company’s best and most promising new or emerging leaders to participate in the Association’s “Emerging Leaders Group (ELG)”. ACPA established the ELG for the next generation of its concrete paving contractor and industry leaders. The ELG consists of ACPA members approximately 45 years of age and under who have been identified as future leaders by their employers or other industry professionals.

The ELG will provide them an opportunity to:
• Become active participants in ACPA
• Bring their voices to the table
• Benefit through a better understanding of the perspectives of the next generation of leaders (the Association and its members)
• Brainstorm and work on ideas they are passionate about
• Exchange ideas on national issues
• Discuss common experiences and best practices
• Develop leadership skills
• Build a network of ELG members on a national level
• Get to know other ELG members and invited guests from the ACPA membership—through social components of meetings
• Eventually take on additional responsibilities identified by the ACPA Strategic Advisory Committee and Board of Directors
• Shape the future of their Association and industry—locally and nationally
• Grow into a larger role in the industry

Additionally, the Chair of the ELG will be invited to sit in on ACPA Board Meetings as a non-voting member to represent the ELG. The ELG will convene each year at the ACPA annual and mid-year meetings, and at other times of the year agreed to by the ELG members.

Eric Ferrebee, ACPA Technical Services Engineer and ELG Staff Liaison said participation in the group is a good way to learn about ACPA national and the chapter network, while also “working on passion projects that can benefit the industry”. The ELG currently has four working groups that are focusing on:
• Technology
• Marketing
• Work force development
• Specifications

“The social side is an important part, too. It’s nice to work on specific things together, but we also have fun as a group.” Eric said. The group has participated in team-building, ACPA meeting meet-ups, and other activities that give young professionals an opportunity to spend time with peers who have common interests.

Eric encourages nominees to complete and return the ELG backgrounder and nomination form by February 25, 2019 to help the group as it plans its next event in mid-March. The group is open to members and chapter representatives who are 45 years old or younger and who are eager to grow into leadership roles. The ELG current Chair is Robert Kish, Milestone Contractors, LP and is supported by Ben Roebuck, CEMEX.
