WisDOT Secretary-Designee to Lead MAASTO

Designee Craig Thompson, Wisconsin DOT Secretary of Transportation (WisDOT), will serve as President of the Mid-America Association of State Transportation Officials (MAASTO), according to a WisDOT press release. MAASTO’s mission is to foster the development, operation, and maintenance of an integrated and balanced transportation system that adequately serves the transportation needs of its 10-member states. MAASTO members include Wisconsin (WI), Illinois (IL), Indiana (IN), Iowa (IA), Kansas (KS), Kentucky (KY), Michigan (MI), Minnesota (MN), Missouri (MO) and Ohio (OH). Thompson served as the group’s Vice President—2019 to 2020.

In January 2019, he was appointed Transportation Secretary by Governor Tony Evers. Prior to joining WisDOT, Thompson was the Executive Director of the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin, a position he held for almost 12 years. He also served in key legislative leadership posts with the Wisconsin Counties Association for close to 16 years, according to his LinkedIn page.

Kenneth Wert Named 2020 TRIP Chairman

Kenneth K. Wert, Chairman-Haskell Lemon Construction Co., has been elected 2020 Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Road Information Program (TRIP)—a national transportation research nonprofit based in Washington, DC.

Ken joined the TRIP Board of Directors in 2012 and was appointed to its Executive Committee in 2016. Founded in 1948, Haskell Lemon Construction is a third generation family-owned and operated business working exclusively in the state of Oklahoma. Ken’s father, Peter K. Wert, has served on the TRIP board of directors since 1990.

Wert stated, “For three decades Haskell Lemon Construction has strongly supported TRIP’s efforts to increase public awareness of the need to invest in America’s surface transportation system and I look forward to leading this fine organization. TRIP’s efforts to inform the public and lawmakers about the critical issues facing America’s transportation system are more important than ever as lawmakers debate federal surface transportation funding in the nation’s capital; improving America’s surface transportation system impacts our lives every day by increasing our safety, mobility and accessibility, here in Oklahoma, and throughout the country.”

IGGA announced the election of its 2020 Board of Directors. The complete list includes:

Cindy Mueller to Provide Support for ACPA Mid-Atlantic Chapter

Ray Seipp, President-American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter announced that Cindy Mueller will be providing support to members ACPA Mid-Atlantic Chapter. Having supported the ACPA Pennsylvania Chapter for many years, Mueller’s range of responsibilities will include assistance with market analysis and support, promotional assistance, and administrative responsibilities. Three New Hampshire (NH), USA, firms take home
New England Concrete Association Awards 

Coleman Concrete-Conway, Remix Companies-Manchester, and Groen Construction-Rochester took home honors at the recent the Northern New England Concrete Association’s 2019 Excellence in  Concrete Construction Awards ceremony at Church Landing in Meredith, New Hampshire.

  • Coleman won in the infrastructure category for its work on the Bearcamp Relief Bridge on Route 16 in Ossipee
  • RedimixNH won the concrete pavements category for its work on the KC-46A airfield pavements and aircraft repair parking apron for the Air National Guard at Pease in Newington.
  • Groen won the low-rise concrete building category for the Warner Fire Station in Warner, which was built with insulating concrete forms.

President of the Turkish Ready Mixed Concrete Association (THBB),
Yavuz Işık re-elected President of the
European Ready Mixed Concrete Organization (ERMCO)

Yavuz Işık, President-Turkish Ready Mixed Concrete Association (THBB), who has been pursuing efforts for the construction of safe, durable and sustainable structures for more than 30 years, has been re-elected President of the European Ready Mixed Concrete Organization (ERMCO) after 3 years of presidency.

On June 14, 2019 in Valencia, Spain the 27th Board meeting held after the ERMCO General Assembly had unaimously re-lelected the President of THBB, Yavuz Işık President of the European Organization. Mr Işık,  President of ERMCO since 2016, will be assisted in his duties by the two other members of the President’s Committee messrs Hahn (Germany) and Borroni (Italy). THBB has been Full Member of ERMCO since 1991.

Yavuz Işık shared his thoughts about his re-election as President of ERMCO: “Together with our members, we have been working devotedly to extend the production and use of high quality, proper, sustainable and environmentally friendly concrete which is necessary for the construction of safe, durable and sustainable structures. As we have done so far, the dissemination of our policies on concrete at national and international levels will be promoted, the cooperation and good relations already established with our partners will be extended to achieve a common goal of improving the competitiveness of concrete as a material of choice. There is a long list of tasks that we will tackle together. We will focus on the sustainability and digitalization of our industry and promote all aspects of concrete for sustainable construction. Additionally, lobbying and promotion activities will be carried out to emphasize that concrete is a highly flexible, durable, affordable, energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable material to show its limitless potential for innovation and performance enhancement. As the construction industry plays a crucial role in promoting economic growth, specifically through its connection with other manufacturing sectors; on each occasion, we will underline that our concrete industry is fundamental for economy by its contribution to the welfare of the society.”
