FORUM OVERVIEW:
• ISCA’s IS Rating Scheme Return on Investment study
• AUS-SPEC specifications for local government works
• Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway (W2B) concrete pavements update—The Pacific Highway Woolgoolga to Ballina (W2B) upgrade project is Australia’s largest regional public infrastructure project and the nation’s first Delivery Partner procurement model. For more on the project, please go to: https://www.laingorourke.com/our-projects/all-projects/w2b.aspx
In early May this year, the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) issued a message addressing Sustainable Infrastructure: The Default for Our Economic Rebound, highlighting that infrastructure will play a mission critical role in our economic rebound.
Patrick Hastings will discuss the IS Rating Scheme Return on Investment study which found that infrastructure projects rated under the IS Rating Scheme will deliver up to $2.40 benefit for every dollar spent. The study makes the business case clear – sustainability and profitability are not mutually exclusive.
Nandini Mehta will present on the key aspects of specifying concrete pavements and the benefits of harmonization of specifications across local government. Her presentation will also include the use of AUS-SPEC local government specifications for the life cycle management of concrete assets.
Transport for NSW, Pacific Complete, and its contractor partners are working together to deliver the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway (W2B) upgrade—the largest concrete paving project undertaken by TfNSW. About 78% of the upgrade between Glenugie and Ballina is concrete pavement totalling 750,000 cubic meters. Major concrete pavement packages were awarded to four main contractors, and up to 8 temporary concrete plants were in operation at various times to complete this work. Michael Heathwood will share his experience overseeing all pavement design and construction for Woolgoolga to Ballina.
