Reduce Your Carbon Footprint with PLC Calculator

New website-calculator from
Portland Cement Association (PCA)!
Same durability.

Same resilience.
10% carbon footprint reduction.*

“CO2 Calculator: EASY. PROVEN. READILY AVAIALBE!”

Portland-limestone cement (PLC) is engineered with a higher limestone content. PLC gives specifiers, architects, engineers, producers, and designers a greener way to execute any structure, paving, or geotech project, with virtually no modifications to mix design or placing procedures. All while maintaining the resilience and sustainability you’ve come to expect from portland cement concrete (PCC).

PLC is one of the easiest ways to reduce the carbon footprint of all your concrete construction by about 10%. Check out our basic and advanced calculators to estimate potential CO2 savings for your next project.

PLC concrete is suitable for buildings, bridges, pavements, geotechnical applications; and is readily available throughout the U.S. and Canada from local cement manufacturers.

Tested & Proven
Decades of research, testing, and use by cement manufacturers, ready mix producers, and builders prove PLC performs as well as portland cement. 1:1 Replacement & Performance
Same mixing and handling. Same strength and durability. If you work with cement and concrete, you already know how to work with PLC. Applications & Uses
Structures. Bridges. Paving. Geotech. Anywhere you use ordinary portland cement, you can use PLC.
Worldwide Acceptance
US, Canadian, and European standards define and support PLC’s global usage.

How do you specify PLC?
Specifying PLC for use in concrete is not complicated. PLC is a direct replacement for ordinary portland cement (OPC), so it only requires one change to project specifications: Refer to ASTM C595 Type IL instead of ASTM C150 Type I portland cement. It’s that simple. … For more and DOT Construction using AASHTO Specifications; American Institute of Architects (AIA) MasterSpec; Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Specification; Canadian Specifications; as well as Testing Requirements and Cement Qualifiers for PLCs and PLC Mixes, please go to: https://b910efcb-b4f5-4088-990d-b624f092391e.filesusr.com/ugd/f3d485_5bd63ac767ed4e35b2676bb97e34f653.pdf

*Typically, PLC can reduce your carbon footprint by 10%.

4 Million Metric Tons of PLC used in US 2012-2018

325,600 Metric Tons CO2 Savings 2012-2018
= 70,344 passenger vehicles driven for 1 year
= 37,572 homes’ energy use for 1 year
= Carbon sequestered by 425,218 acres of US forests for 1 year

8.1 Million Metric Tons CO2 Savings if 100% PLC use in the U.S. in 2019
= 1,753,776 passenger vehicles driven for 1 year
= 936,729 homes’ energy use for 1 year
= Carbon sequestered by 10,601,334 acres of US forests for 1 year

Lori Tiefenthaler, Sr. Director of Marketing-Lehigh Hanson, stated, “Check out this new website-calculator from PCA! I also wanted to ensure [our industry’s] awareness that Lehigh Cement offers EcoCemPLC to help concrete mixtures make significant and measurable steps to carbon reductions.”
