Roesler Receives 2025 Collins Award for Innovative Teaching

Longtime ISCP member and past president, Dr. Jeffery Roesler, Ernest Barenberg Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering and leader of ICT’s rigid pavements program, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Collins Award for Innovative Teaching by The Grainger College of Engineering. The award recognizes faculty who excel in developing or applying innovative teaching methods and is named in honor of W. Leighton Collins, a former Illinois professor and influential figure in engineering education.

Roesler, who joined the faculty in 2000, is known for his dynamic instructional style that blends project-based learning with real-world engineering applications. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in pavement and materials engineering, geometric roadway design, and professional practice. A dedicated educator, Roesler brings practical challenges into the classroom, preparing students for complex, real-world infrastructure problems.

A triple alumnus of the University of Illinois, Roesler holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in civil engineering. Beyond teaching, he has served in several leadership roles within the department and remains active in national and international professional organizations, including TRB, ASCE, and the International Society of Concrete Pavements. He was honored at the Engineering Awards Convocation held on April 28. Congratulations, Jeff!
