In Memoriam: Dr. Jacob E. Hiller, President of ISCP

It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the sudden and unexpected passing of our President, Dr. Jacob E. Hiller, due to natural causes.

Jake served ISCP in literally every position and capacity for over 20 years. Our society and the mission we serve were driven by his efforts, especially during the COVID pandemic. He setup numerous collaborations with societies and agencies across the world on behalf of ISCP that continue to thrive today.

With over 25 years in the pavement industry, Jake was a dedicated educator, researcher, and practitioner. He authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, mentored dozens of graduate students, and was a leader in national and international pavement evaluation efforts.

Beyond his technical expertise, Jake was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support of colleagues and students alike. As the Board prepares to meet in the coming weeks, we will discuss plans for interim leadership and a formal remembrance of Jake’s legacy.

Our thoughts are with Jake’s family, friends, and colleagues. We welcome you to share any memories or tributes by sending them to president@concretepavements.org. We will compile the responses for his family and our society’s archives.

With deepest sympathy,

Tom Burnham – VP, ISCP
Armen Amirkhanian – Secretary-Treasurer, ISCP
