The Bolivian Cement and Concrete Institute (IBCH), in partnership with SOBOCE and ITACAMBA, is set to host the International Rigid Pavement Conference, an event designed to mark a new path for development in the country. The conference will take place on October 27th in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and on October 28th in La Paz. This event will bring together experts from around the world to share cutting-edge research and practical applications in pavement technology.
The conference agenda features a distinguished lineup of international and local speakers. Dr. Ing. Lev Khazanovich will present on ultrasonic testing for concrete pavements, covering topics like thickness measurement, consolidation, and the detection of alkali-silica reactivity. He will also discuss the application of artificial intelligence in pavements. Dr. Ing. Jeffrey Roesler will speak about roller-compacted concrete, including its mix design, construction, and performance, as well as the performance of bonded and unbonded concrete overlays. Other experts, including Marcelo Alfaro, Alvaro Uria, Christian Rojas, and Oscar Trujillo from IBCH, will discuss a variety of topics relevant to the Bolivian context, such as a design method based on stress and fatigue models, single-layer pavements, the International Roughness Index (IRI) on mountain roads, and experiences with GPS-guided rigid pavements in Bolivia.
In addition to the presentations, the event will include site visits to significant construction projects. In Santa Cruz, attendees will visit a GPS-guided rigid pavement project, and in La Paz, there will be a visit to an 8-lane whitetopping project. The conference offers a unique opportunity for professionals and students to engage with the latest advancements in the field.
