MIT Launches Next-Generation Pavement Sustainability Tool

The MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSHub) unveiled a powerful, updated version of its Pavement Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) Tool, significantly advancing the industry’s ability to conduct sustainable and cost-effective pavement design. This cutting-edge online platform, led by Haoran Li, is distinguished by its seamless integration of advanced computational models, including AI- and Machine Learning (ML)-based pavement performance modeling and mechanistic-empirical (ME)-based pavement design. By streamlining these complex analyses within an intuitive user experience (UI/UX), the tool is poised to help designers and planners make data-driven decisions that prioritize both environmental impact and long-term economic viability.

The CSHub’s updated tool comes equipped with several key functional enhancements designed for professional use. These improvements include comprehensive pavement LCCA analyses with visualization, crucial new unit conversions for material emissions calculations and pavement design sections, and overall improved bar plot visualization for clearer data interpretation.
