Global Access to Premier Rigid Pavement Design Course Now Available Online

A comprehensive educational series on the analysis and design of rigid pavements, originally developed for the Indian Ministry of Education’s Swayam Prabha program, is now globally accessible via YouTube. Developed and narrated by Dr. Sushobhan Sen, an Assistant Professor at IIT Gandhinagar and a board member of the International Society for Concrete Pavements (ISCP), the course consists of 40 in-depth lectures that span approximately one hour each. These sessions were initially broadcast across India via Direct-to-Home (DTH) channels to provide high-level engineering curriculum to students in even the most remote regions. Dr. Sen describes the program as one of the most exhaustive resources on the subject, covering everything from fundamental pavement philosophy to sophisticated mechanistic-empirical design methods.

While the lectures were produced nearly two years ago to support national engineering standards, their digital release opens a wealth of specialized knowledge to practitioners and students worldwide. The curriculum explores critical topics such as Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (JPCP) design, finite element method analysis, and the evolution of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) codes. Although the YouTube playlist may appear out of chronological order, many of the lectures are designed as standalone modules, allowing viewers to dive into specific technical areas of interest. This initiative highlights a growing trend of democratizing high-level infrastructure expertise, transforming a localized broadcast into a global reference for the concrete pavement community.
