Roger Larson

Roger Larson earned an M.S. in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1966 after graduating from South Dakota State University (SDSC). Mr. Larson experienced the satisfaction that comes with having had a long and prosperous career that has spanned over six-decades. More than 50 years in the transportation engineering profession, Roger’s remarkable accomplishments have included his work with two agencies: the U.S. Department of Transportationâs Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) (and its predecessor the Bureau of Roads) and Applied Pavement Technology, Inc. (APTech)âa testament to Rogerâs dedication and commitment.
Mr. Larson has given 41 years of service to the U.S. Department of Transportationâs Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). He helped administer the federal and highway program in North Dakota and Minnesota for almost 20 years in planning, designing, construction and maintenance. In the 1970âs, he participated on the policy and technical advisory committees for a dozen urban transportation planning studies in small urban areas of Minnesota. For 18 years, Mr. Larson was involved in pavement research, development and technology transfer activities. He initiated major concrete pavement design and rehabilitation research studies that have been incorporated into models used in developing countries around the world. He retired in 2002 as Senior Pavement Engineer. He was awarded SDSC’s “2002 Distinguished Engineer Honoree” upon retirement.
Mr. Larson joined Applied Pavement Technology, Inc. (APTech) after his 41-year career with the FHWA. His time with APTech as a consultant spanned over 10 years. He was involved with a number of associations including ASCE, ISCP, NSPE, ACI, TRB, and NCHRP. He retired in 2012.
