Honorary member since 2024

Rolf Breitenbuecher, born in 1957 in Germany, studied Civil Engineering at the Technical University Munich, finished with his Diploma in 1982. After 9 months in a design office, he returned to the Technical University Munich as scientific assistant at the Institute for Building Materials. 1989 he got his PhD (Dr.-Ing.) with his doctoral thesis “Restraint Stresses and Risk of Cracking due to Hydration Heat” under the supervision of ISCP-Honorary Member Rupert Springenschmid.

From 1992 to 2002, Rolf was head of the Central Laboratory for Building Materials in the Philipp Holzmann AG (the largest construction company in Germany at that time), where he was responsible for concrete technology within this company worldwide.

From 2003 to 2023, Rolf was a full professor for Building Materials at the Ruhr-University in Bochum (Germany). His main research fields were concrete for pavements, Alkali-Silica reactions, degradation processes due to cyclic loads, resistance against chemical attack and shotcrete. Besides his academic studies, Rolf also works as an expert and consultant in various areas of concrete technology and application. In the field of concrete pavements, he is frequently involved in issues related to crack formation, durability, and joints.

Rolf was member of several standardizing committees (e.g. chairman of European concrete standard EN 206, chairman of the German Committee for pavement concrete) and also member of several technical societies. In 2008, Rolf became a member of ISCP, where he has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2015.
