The Forschungsgesellschaft Für Strassen- Und Verkehrswesen (FGSV) (German Road and Transportation Research Association) cordially invites concrete pavement professionals to the Betonstraßentagung 2015 (Concrete Pavement Conference 2015) to be held in Ulm, Germany, September 24-25, 2015. The purpose of the 2015 conference is to explore different aspects of the latest developments in the construction of concrete pavements. The 2015 conference languages will be German and English, with simultaneous interpreting to be provided. This will be the second time since 2013 that the Concrete Pavement Conference has been held in two languages.

Between 300 and 400 delegates are expected to attend the conference, with presentations on the following topics:

  • Practical experiences
  • International concrete pavement construction
  • Research and development

Following the presentation of the Young Engineer Award and the opening presentation, delegates can look forward to a series of papers on ‘Experience from the Field’. The range of papers in this series will cover:

  • Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects from the perspective of the conceding authority
  • Application of the Guidelines for the computational dimensioning of concrete pavement structures for trafficked areas (RDO Beton) in contracts governed by the Regulations on Contract Awards for Public Works (VOB)
  • Practical examples of the construction of end sections

The second day of the conference will begin with:

  • An international overview of developments and innovations in the field of concrete pavement construction
  • A paper on the opportunities for concrete pavements resulting from sustainability policies in Europe
  • A report on topical issues in Austria and Switzerland

The third and final series of papers will cover the latest research findings on concrete pavements (including the central test road ZEUS, noise-optimized grinding, the construction and sealing of joints, the latest findings on thermal damage, and continuously reinforced concrete pavements (CRCP) with thin flexible wearing courses).

The conference location will be the ‘Stadthaussaal’ (Ulm City Hall)—an integral part of the German city with a fascinating 100-year history. During the conference and the evening event, delegates will have the chance to see not only the conference hall, but other rooms in the building too. It will be very interesting to hear what attendees think of the design.

  1. I participated in the 2013 Conference in Karlsruhe (the first that was done in both English and German) and found it to be excellent. Both Julie Vandenbossche and I are looking forward to the conference in Ulm this year.
