CP Tech Center Welcomes a New Staff Member & an Executive Board Member

John Adam joins the Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) staff and Portland Cement Concrete Laboratory (PCC Lab)Adam has more than 30 years of experience in the design and delivery of transportation improvement projects, and has worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation (IowaDOT) and for several firms in private industry during his engineering career. He will serve as a Program Manager for CP Tech, which will include managing the PCC Lab, in the Town Engineering building at Iowa State University (ISU). He will be an active participant in other programs at the Center, taking advantage of his range of experience and skills.

Adam is a 1980 graduate of ISU, obtained a B.S. in Construction Engineering, and is a licensed Civil Engineer in Iowa. He was Highway Division Director and Chief Engineer for the IowaDOT in Ames for six years, after serving as Director-Statewide Operations BureauDOT . Following that stint, he spent several years as Senior Vice President-Knight Engineering. In addition, he was a member of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Subcommittee on Highway Traffic Safety, the AASHTO Standing Committee of Highways (SCOH), and numerous other AASHTO subcommittees throughout his career.

He has often collaborated with project stakeholders and the community to develop the right solutions for transportation challenges. The CP Tech Center welcomes John to InTrans and to ISU!

 

Maik Strecker joins CP Tech Center as an Executive Board Member. Streker, Vice President for Business Development USA-Aggregates & Construction Materials (ACM)-LafargeHolcim, assumed a key role earlier this year in LafargeHolcim’s Strategy 2022 “Building for Growth” Program. He leads and coordinates the U.S. ACM’s business development strategy with its key focus areas of business growth and development of an acquisition portfolio for tuck in, bolt on, and potential asset swaps/divestment opportunities.

In addition to serving on the National CP Tech Center Executive Board, Strecker is a member of the boards of directors for the Portland Cement Association (PCA) and the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA). He brings to all of his professional affiliations an international view of the needs of the contemporary concrete construction industry.

Strecker graduated from Leipzig University of Applied Science, began his career with Holcim Germany AG in 2000, then moved to Lafarge North America in 2004—the largest diversified supplier of construction materials in the United States and Canada. He was part of operations for LaFarge in Maryland and Colorado, and now is based in Chicago.

With his experience in sales and marketing, on a regional, country and district level, complemented by experience managing a production operation, Strecker understands the challenges and delicate balance between running a profitable business and producing and delivering products and services that meet individual customer needs. His international education and employment background, cross-cultural awareness, and fluency in English and German have given him a unique perspective on global economic and market drivers. This mix of qualifications makes Strecker’s contributions a distinct asset for the CP Tech executive board!
