2 U.S. DOTs Appoint New Directors: Arkansas 36-Year ARDOT Career Woman; & Iowa 22-Year IDOT Gentleman

Arkansas Appoints DOT Director

The Arkansas Highway Commission has named Lorie Harris Tudor, P.E. the NEW Director of the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT). She will succeed Scott Bennett, who announced he will retire on March 20, according to an ARDOT press release. Tudor will become ARDOT’s first female Director, and the fifth person to serve in that role in the Department’s last 47 years.

Tudor began her 36-year career in 1981, with what was then the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, as a clerk typist. She left the Department in 1995 to return to college, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Memphis.

She returned to ARDOT in 1998 as a Civil Engineer I in the Planning Branch. She held various titles in Planning, Research, and Program Management, and became the Assistant Chief Engineer for Planning in 2011. In December 2014, she was named Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer.

Previous ARDOT Directors: Henry Gray (15 years); Maurice Smith (6 years); Dan Flowers (17 years); and Scott Bennett (9 years).

Iowa DOT Appoints Director

Scott Marler has been appointed as the NEW Director of the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT). His appointment was effective Monday, February 17. Marler has been with IDOT for 22 years, with experience in traffic operations, highway project development, regulatory compliance, and the natural environment. He previously served as Director of Operations Division-IDOT. He is active with American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and serves on an expert panel of the Transportation Research Board (TRB). He also has served on a national technical committee for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a course development committee for the National Highway Institute (NHI).

Iowa Governor Kay Reynolds said, “Scott will do an outstanding job leading the Iowa Department of Transportation because of his depth of experience and effective management style. Iowa DOT plays an instrumental role in the safe transportation of goods, services, and people across our state and we know he will do an incredible job.”

Scott Marler, Director-IDOT, said, “I’m tremendously humbled and honored to be chosen by Governor Reynolds to join her team. I look forward to serving the citizens of our great state with the incredibly talented team at the Iowa DOT and to work with our partners and stakeholders to meet our common goal of making Iowa the safest and most efficient transportation system in the country.”

Stuart Anderson, Interim Director-IDOT will return to his role as Director of the Planning, Programming & Modal Division.
