ASCP2021 E-CONFERENCE SPEAKER PROFILE:

With the ASCP2021 6th Concrete Pavements E-Conference fast approaching, ASCP2021 highlights international keynote speaker, James Mack, Director, Market Development-CEMEX: James (Jim) Mack has 30 years of pavement engineering experience with expertise in concrete pavement design, rehabilitation, construction; forensic evaluation; pavement management; materials specification and evaluation; life cycle cost analysis; and life cycle assessment (environmental impact). He holds leadership roles in numerous industry associations and national / state organizations across the USJames is the author and co-author of numerous internationally published papers around key research themes of Asset Management, Life-Cycle Cost Assessment and Sustainability in concrete pavements.
PREVIEW: KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: In 2009, the US cement and concrete industries established the Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSHub) at the Massachusetts Institute (MIT). A primary thrust of MIT’s activities has been improving the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) practices to better quantify the environmental impacts over the life of a pavement. In their research, the MIT CSHub determined that the “use phase” can dominate the materials, construction and maintenance phases of a pavement LCA. James’ presentation will outline research around two important factors during the “use phase”; Pavement Vehicle Interaction (PVI) and Albedo.
—Furthermore, two areas of focus by the CSHub have been on how economic practices at project-level and network-level pavement type selection can be improved and how inter-industry competition (competition between industries) can lower an agencies costs. With regard to the economic practices, MIT has focused on how the Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) process can be improved so that the results are more representative of the agency’s and the user’s cost.  With regard to competition, MIT has shown that sustained and viable competition between paving industries can be an opportunity to lower bid prices; or improve network performance for the same expenditures.
—James’ presentations are sure to be an interesting and in-depth insight into several valuable outcomes from his broad experience and the research at CSHub

2020 tested our flexural capacity & at times strained our mental tensile strength to 85% yield. To maintain tradition, ASCP has worked hard to develop a unique line-up of papers for its “6th Concrete Pavements Conference” which will be delivered in August 2021.
