“Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Pavements USA—Design, Materials, Construction, Projects”
Corey Zollinger
, Vice-President-ISCP, Director Pavement Development and Paving Solutions-CEMEX, and Chairman-RCC Pavement Council
Corey will outline the many benefits of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC), including speed of installation and opening to traffic. RCC is a no-slump concrete placed by an asphalt paver and compacted with vibratory rollers. His presentation will include recent advances in moistures with admixtures, aggregate selection, and surface finishes.

“The Cost-Effectiveness of Concrete Pavements for Low Traffic Roads”
Justin Moss, Technical Director and Team Leader (Pavements)-Arcadis
Following recent findings that concrete pavement were lower cost to both construct and maintain (refer Pavement Note 001) at nominal motorway traffic loadings, additional research was undertaken to investigate the sensitivities of asphalt and concrete pavement life cycle costs to various traffic levels. Specifically, the objective of this work was to determine the absolute traffic level at which concrete pavements (PCP) became cost-effective compared with asphalt (FDA). Justin will detail the finings of the work and the implications to future lower duty applications for concrete pavements. ASCP Pavement Note 001: www.concretepavements.com.au/documents/publications/PN001/ASCP%20Pavement%20Note%20001%20-%20Concrete%20Pavement%20Value%20(Economic,%20Operational%20&%20Community%20Benefits)-7.0.2-SPS.pdf

“Existing Neoprene Joints, New Joint Seal Trial, Findings and Lessons Learned”
—M1 Kariong to Somersby Project
Antonn Russek
, Project Manager, M1 Productivity Package-Kariong to Somersby-Transport for NSW
Antonn
will present the lessons learned from the activity of the M1 Motorway Kariong to Somersby Project situated above Gosford on the Central Coast. Constructed in 1986, the M1 is the key transport link between Sydney and the north of NSW. The neoprene joint seals installed for significant sections of the pavement have performed extremely well. Following reconstruction of K2S, a small section of pavement was resealed with modern neoprene seals after diamond grinding. Antonn will present the lessons learned from this activity and the existing neoprene seals, which are of significance to the future direction for joint sealing when considering the current challenges presented with silicone seals.

“Transport for New South Wales Update”
Shamim Anwar
, Technologist for Rigid Pavements-Transport for NSW
Shamim will provide an update regarding the review of several TfNSW specifications, including:
NFC subbase
Diamond grinding
Maintenance
Binders and hot-poured sealants
2020-21 technology programs
HES sublease concrete mix trials
